Barbara HaskellDirector, Chesapeake Ballet Company |
With over 20 years of teaching experience
with all ages and levels of dance, Barbara opened The Dance Academy of Severna Park in 1993. In
an effort to provide a fun and friendly atmosphere in which to learn dance, she decided to create
a studio that would encourage artistic expression while building self esteem. The studio was expanded
in 1998 and then again in 2002 to provide larger, state-of-the-art facilities. In 2004, Barbara founded
the Chesapeake Ballet Company to give area dancers the opportunity to perform in professionally-staged
ballets. The Chesapeake Ballet Company has performed The Nutcracker, Cinderella, Snow White,
and a special dual performance of A Midsummer Night's Dream and The Snow Queen.
In 2007, Barbara entrusted the studio that she had built to Heather
Zampier knowing she would continue the teaching traditions and loving atmosphere that had been her vision.
